Homework
Reading
It is important for students to read at least 10 minutes a night at the beginning of the year, increasing to at least 15 minutes a night in the middle of the year and 20 minutes a night at the end of first grade. Below is a copy of the reading log. It will go home on Mondays and will be due in school on Friday. On the front the students are to write down the books they read and the amount of time (with a parent initial).
Spelling
Students will either get a first grade list or challenge list of spelling words every Monday attached to their reading log. No homework assignments will be assigned to practice the words; however, a list of suggested activities is posted below as an opportunity to practice words.
Math
Students are expected to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts to 10.
Other than reading each night and completing the reading log (due Fridays), no written homework will be assigned to be handed in to school other than incomplete work that students do not finish in school. Incomplete work will be sent home and should be completed and returned the following day. A copy of the incomplete homework form that will be sent home with incomplete student work is posted below. Students are expected to practice their spelling words (a list of activities to practice at home is posted below) and math facts on their own time, as necessary.
